… to see a Russian icebreaker!

It happens. More often than you think.

I studied a lot during the years we lived in Greenland. Unfortunately, I didn’t always choose the best place to sit.

First signs of winter in Uummannaq.

This might be one of those specialist interest posts, but here are a few of the really important buildings/structures in Qaanaaq, starting with the supermarket (above).

Followed by the power station.

And the tanks. Of course, I can’t remember which one has oil and which one has water, but you get the idea.
Not much more to say about the photos. It was a grey August day in Qaanaaq. However, I do remember a visiting Dane (in Uummannaq) teasing me about the use of the word ‘the’, as if there was only one of everything. Well… there was. 😉

We hadn’t been in Uummannaq long before the hotel owner invited Jane and me on an excursion in Uummannaq fjord. Of course, I didn’t know I would be translating from Danish to English for the other passengers in return for a ‘free’ trip.

After getting up close and personal with the first iceberg, I didn’t care.

Jane got a bit tired of “one more photo” with an iceberg in the background. But, hey, what are you gonna do?
I miss icebergs!
