I may have mentioned this, but this July is Christmas in July! Rather, it’s when I release a Summer Advent Story with a chapter/episode released on every day in July. Subscribers can read A Dog called Blitzen via my Patreon site, either online or in their mailbox when a new chapter pops in each day.

I’ve written a few Advent calendars now, but never a summer one, and never exclusively via Patreon. I have no plans to release A Dog called Blitzen in any other format this year. While that may mean very few people read it, I’m okay with that, as I need to explore more sustainable means of supporting my writing.

I am excited about the story, and really curious to see how the delivery works.

I recently revamped the covers for the first five Centaur Chronicles stories. Yep, the centaur fantasy stories that couldn’t be further removed from the Greenland crime stories. Which is exactly why I write them. 😉

Yep, you’ve guessed it, I found the old photos! 🙂 But, just looking at these photos, I can still taste the best ham and cheese toasties ever. Which was fun, because mum was a vegetarian! Then there was the barman always chatting up my mum. I was oblivious, of course. And fourteen, I think.

But I remember the 4×4 mum rented to explore the island. I’m thinking it was Corfu. Of course, it wasn’t really a 4×4, but I loved it! I also remember lizards in the hotel room and swimming in deep blue seas, all the way out to a remote platform. Until the day mum mentioned the shark nets, and how they had caught sharks the year before.

I never went in the water again!

I’m not sure how we afforded that holiday, but I remember it being one of the first when we weren’t with another family. Just mum and son on tour! I behaved perfectly the entire time, naturally. Cue shark story and the reason, perhaps, it was told?

The first photo (above) is from June 6, 2007 when I was compelled to take a quick trip on the water around Uummannaq island.

The second photo (middle) is from May 18, 2007. It was my first ever kayak trip in Greenland. A short paddle on open water.

The final photo (below) is from May 6, 2007, just 12 days earlier, when kayaking wasn’t possible. 😉

Do you remember the day you got your very first watch and in every photo thereafter, you have to make sure everybody could see it? Yep, this was, I think, my very first watch. I mean, I have no idea, actually. But of all the old photos I’ve been through, these are the oldest of “me and my new watch”.

I love the fact that a watch (can’t imagine it was all that expensive) was the most exciting present you could wish for. Fast forward a few decades, teaching teenagers, and I can count on one hand how many of them I’ve met who wore a watch.

And… even if they had one…

Well, it couldn’t beat this one, could it? 😉

I love this plane! The de Havilland Canada Dash 7. Usually just called “The Dash”, ‘cos, you know, there’s only one. 😉 Sadly, I don’t think Air Greenland have any Dash 7s in their fleet anymore. But we’ve spent some time in these planes, had the best service, the best coffee – really! – and the best time. The seats are fabulous, with plenty of leg room. And counting the 13 seconds from the moment the pilot floors it to take off (a few seconds more when it’s heavy)… Yeah, it never gets old.

Ah… I miss it!
