Blasts from the Past, part 2

July 27, 2023 by Christoffer Petersen Leave a Comment

Winter camping in Tresticklan, Sweden, close to the southern Norwegian border. This was back in 2005, a year before Greenland. It was one of the last trips before we sold our van.

We found a good spot to camp, and I got very excited when meeting Swedes who were in the park tracking wolves. Very excited, I say! Jane took it in her stride.

It’s just possible, I might have known snow was forecast for the weekend we were away. Just possible, I say.

Which is why going to sleep on the first night was like Christmas Eve, crossing everything and hoping we would wake up to…

This! Yes, it’s a wonder we’re still married!

Petra’s not married… yet!

But it’s Day 27 in A Dog called Blitzen on Patreon!

Last day!

Jane’s last day of work in Uummannaq, July 26, 2010.

Emotional day.

Petra gets all emotional in A Dog called Blitzen, too. Now on Day 26 only on Patreon!

And when Harry Potter arrives…

Jane surfaces 24 hours later! This was 2007.

It’s easier to get in touch with Petra than Jane. And it’s Day 25 of A Dog called Blitzen on Patreon!

Breakfast Soup!

July 24, 2023 by Christoffer Petersen Leave a Comment

The conditions were good on this July morning in 2009. I left camp rather early – the sun was already up, but then, it hadn’t set!

Fixed my soup on the kayak deck…

And headed home to Uummannaq Island! About 10 kilometres from this point in the photos.

Petra’s still trying to get home!

It’s Day 24 in A Dog called Blitzen, only on Patreon!

Blasts from the Past, part 1

July 23, 2023 by Christoffer Petersen Leave a Comment

Way back when (pre-Greenland) we had a van! It wasn’t quite “van life” and it sure wasn’t completely legal, meaning you’re not allowed to sleep in a vehicle with yellow plates in Denmark, but we had a camper van of sorts.

The nieces and nephew were quite a lot younger back then, and spent a day finger painting the inside. We also had glow-in-the-dark stars stuck to the black roof. However, they became shooting stars one winter, cascading on top of us as we shivered through the night – somewhere in Sweden, I think!

We kitted it out for adventures, with a raised bed and the folding canoe parted out into cavities beneath the bed.

We drove to the Arctic one year, and explored the National Park close to Gällivare, Sweden, which happens to be the same distance from our house as it is to Kyiv, Ukraine.

And I think the photo above is from the famous night of shooting stars, also in Sweden. We’re still picking stars out of our outdoor gear!

I miss that van!

Meanwhile, in Greenland, it’s Day 23 in A Dog called Blitzen on Patreon!
