Sledging was hard work. A walk in the mountains with Nansen was the reward!

When we left Uummannaq, we gave the dogs and sledge to a friend. Nansen, however, went to the Uummannaq Children’s Home on account of him being so pretty. 🙂

Admit it, you wanted more of ships ‘n’ bergs! 😉

Back in 2014, a year following our return from Greenland, I was up to my eyeballs in work and studies, trying to juggle long hours at a boarding school with a looming deadline for my final project at Falmouth. Digging through my hard drive I discovered these notes I made for The Ice Star prior to a video call with my supervisor.
It feels like a long time ago.
But this was 2014, and The Ice Star wouldn’t see the light of day until 2017.

I may have mentioned this, but I gave Petra our apartment in Nuuk. It felt like the thing to do. So when you read about her (or, spoiler alert, Maratse) looking out over the fjord towards the city centre, this is the view I mean.

It was a building site at the time.
But Petra ignores those details. In fact, living in Greenland, you quickly get used to red shipping containers. 😉
