It was the end of the school year and we celebrated with a cookout!

On this day, back in 2011, I graduated from Aalborg University with a Masters in Information Communication Technology and Learning. My final project had the fabulously long academic title: Sharing Local Knowledge with Social Media: Exploring the potential for sharing Greenlandic Local Knowledge on Facebook. All 64 pages of it. We arrived from Greenland the night before my exam, I think, and then hot-footed it from Copenhagen to Aalborg – about as far from the capital as you can get, and then I defended my paper the next morning. And passed!

I was still wearing typical “Greenland attire” but felt, considering the subject matter, that it was appropriate. I was a bit of a crash test bunny (yeah, something wrong there) as the university had not had a student from Greenland studying from Greenland before me, and to say we had Internet challenges is a bit of an understatement. Hence the smile from one of my professors as “we did it!”

I’m going to put my project on Patreon and Substack for interested readers. It’s not a stellar award winning thesis, and it is already very much dated, but for me it is a nice snapshot of a period of time in Greenland.

Oh, and huge thanks to brother-in-law Jørgen for printing out and binding the paper copies as per university expectations!

I might have mentioned canoeing a couple of times. Well, here’s me, “paddling” a rental! (It’s a video, and it might not play in your email.) I don’t want to add this, but I used to do the same gunnel bopping from the actual gunnels. Apparently, I chose to play safe and bop from the stern seat. But then the whole school was watching! 😉

That’s my excuse.
