Yeah, this is a silly one, but when we watched Dungeons & Dragons: Honor among Thieves last year, there was a brief moment at the beginning when they showed a map of the Forgotten Realms and the camera drifted past Icewind Dale.
“Hey,” I said to Jane, getting all excited. “We’ve been there!”
Cue map… I like maps!
We’ve actually spent many, many hours adventuring in Icewind Dale. Cue plug for “Game Night“, even though it’s been a few months since we were adventuring. 😉 And just seeing it on the big screen, was fun. I say big screen, but we saw the film on a relatively small screen as we missed this one at the cinema. I’m a bit sad about that as going to the movies is one of the things I really like to do. I like that moment when all the adverts for local businesses are gone, and the trailers are over – I try not to see the trailers for the films I want to watch – and then the lights go down. It’s silly, I usually whisper entertain me, as I am, at that moment, ready to be entertained, preferably by a good story with strong characters, rather than just a lot of effects.
I’ve stopped going to see superhero movies because the story gets lost in the effects, and the characters are pretty one-dimensional anyway. Apart from the film Logan, which is a whole other animal! Brilliant film.
D&D: Honor among Thieves was fun. Good characters on an adventure. It had the usual fantasy tropes, with lots of D&D “stuff”, lots of jokes, a few emotional bits for, you know, depth. And then, most importantly, an owl bear!
Right, I know, it’s time to move on. But… owl bears!
Jane’s off geocaching for the weekend, and I just so happen to have borrowed Honor among Thieves from the library! So… I know what I’ll be watching tonight! 🙂
Oh, a short aside about borrowing from the library. In these days of streaming this and streaming that, inflation, and what not, it’s really satisfying to borrow stuff from the library. I’m really lucky that the Danish library system is both extensive and forward thinking. As a library user you can stream all kinds of things from films to documentaries and TV series. What you can’t stream, you can borrow. We borrow board games, Blu-ray and DVDs, books – of course, and eBooks, audiobooks, etc. There was even a moment when Jane was meeting friends in town, and she told them she had “just dropped her husband off at the library”, to which someone cheekily added, “Oh, you had him for a month, then?”
Yeah, I’ve used that joke once or thrice! 😉

P.S.
This whole film talk is a nice segue into tomorrow’s post! 😉
