I have a cunning plan. I’ll share it with you on Thursdays.
Thriller Thursday posts will be reserved for news about my ongoing and upcoming titles in this genre. I’m going to be broad, though, and include the crime stuff, too. But really, what I want to explore here is my love of thrillers, and to define which thrillers I love.
Now, that might sound strange, but for the same reason I’m doing it, crime and thriller books are often lumped together. There might be crimes in a thriller, but there is a big difference in the writing of such stories, and it’s often where I get into difficulty with the genres.
Basically, in a crime or mystery book the reader is introduced to a crime and then the rest of the book is about revealing the perpetrator’s identity and catching them. Motivation is almost a subplot, while getting the bugger and stopping them from doing said crime again is key.
Thrillers are different.
Shortly into a thriller, the reader is introduced to the bad person, people, actor, or state, told what they intend to do, and then the rest of the book is all about stopping them. And I love that.
I love the “how are we going to stop them?” and much prefer it to the “who did this?”
I guess that’s my confession, and the reason why I write somewhere in the grey area between these two genres.
I have plans for a thriller or thrillers in 2024 and I’ll share those plans on Thursdays. I might even put in a review or two of the thrillers I enjoy (including TV and movies) and why I like them.
That’s what you can expect on Thriller Thursday folks!
Chris
