This photo was taken on this day in 2010. In eight more days the sun would be gone for the better part of four months. This was to be our first winter so far north. The winter dark was nothing new, but in Uummannaq there was about 90 minutes of “grey”, no sun, each day. Here, in Qaanaaq? Not so much. Pitch black for two full months, and mostly dark and black either side.
It was a case of buckle up, it’s going to be a looooooong winter!
