I had so much fun with this project! A Dog Called Blitzen was my first novel written in real time, meaning that it was a calendar novel with an episode released each day in July 2023 on my patreon page. Now, I tried to write in advance, but it just didn’t work, and I’m rather pleased it didn’t. I was almost a day ahead of myself, until I wasn’t. And then, with a lovely visit from M&D, I ended up writing after midnight, editing, polishing, and publishing by about 3 a.m. before getting up around 8 a.m. to be ready for breakfast. Luckily, my parents are very relaxed in the morning, and breakfast was often an hour or so later. 😉
But, what was really fun, was the feedback from patrons. Actually, let’s be honest, Dave gave the feedback, and in the beginning I was writing for him and me! 🙂 And, just to be mean, every time he said something like “oh no, another cliffhanger, I can’t wait until tomorrow”… What did I do? I wrote another cliffhanger!
Like I said, really mean.
But so much fun!
And then, trying to end the damn thing! That was problematic. It was supposed to be all tied up on day 31. But I just needed a day more. Enter the “epilogue” and it all worked out wonderfully.
So what’s it all about? Well, for much of the month, I didn’t really know. I wrote this novel completely in the dark, with no plan, and just a handful of names to keep me going. It got a little complicated, and I loved that, and I just didn’t know how Petra was going to resolve the whole thing.
Well, she didn’t, actually. It takes a team, and when writing Blitzen, I really felt I was writing with a team.
So, thank you, Dave! This one’s for you!
Chris
And for non-patrons, A Dog Called Blitzen is now available in eBook and paperback!
I was thinking it would remain “exclusive”.
Dave thought otherwise! 😉
I’m blushing!! :o) When I learned you were writing each chapter THAT DAY, from scratch, without an outline or concrete path to the conclusion, it just made it that much more amazing and exciting! ••• My breakfast reading for an entire month will never be better! Thank you, Chris! Bravo!
And thank you, Dave. Couldn’t have done it without you! 🙂
