Getting stranded is a fact of life when travelling in Greenland. I can’t even remember why I was stranded on this day (2009), or whether I was just waiting on a flight to take me home after a week of work in Nuuk. However, these are the photos just to show how tough it was to be stranded, starting with a conservative use of space in a hangar. 😉
Then the awful, simply awful hotel accommodation with a crappy view. Life is tough.
Time to catch up on world events on TV, such as the the first inauguration of Barack Obama.
And to write the next chapter of one of the first Greenland stories I ever worked on.
Followed by slipping slowly into madness, staring out at that awful view.
Oh! The agony!🤣
I don’t like to talk about it. 🙂
hahahaha I’ve been stranded so many places and it’s always “awful” . Longest stranding – 5 days in Tasiilaq in East Greenland. Had an awesome time. Worse place to be stranded is Kangerlussuaq IF all the good accommodation is already full and they put you in the emergency accommodation barracks. Yeah – that’s not so great… But if you get stranded in one of the proper accommodations there it, too, is awesome.
Ah…. Hotel Tuttu by any chance? I was once stranded there with one of my pupils and five kilos of walrus meat rapidly defrosting. No minibar fridge in Hotel Tuttu!
Umimmak actually. Yeah – those overflow places are not great, though the regular accommodations are fine.
Very true. 🙂
