I think a lot of people, when living in the wilds (i.e. Greenland), might choose to take a holiday in a city. But then, I’m no good in cities. So, unfortunately for Jane, we spent one of the few summers we weren’t in Greenland on a raft in Sweden. 😉
Yeah, I’m pretty hopeless. But we spent our honeymoon on a raft like this on the same river back in 2000. And we’re still married!
No, is not an anniversary post, but this trip happened at this time of the year to fit the blog post. And yes, I’m still working through the hard drive!

Still married?Jane’s a strong woman! Have you based Petra’s character on Jane?🤭🇬🇱
I know, still married! Shocking, eh! 🙂 But no, Petra is not inspired by Jane.
That’s amazing!! Did you sleep in the tent on the raft? . . or did you tie up somewhere on the river bank at night and set up a campsite with what looks like the poles for a teepee? I’m kind of fascinated by this idea – did you rent the raft, along with rules about how far you could travel? Did you just let the current take you downstream, and the rental company picked you up and brought you back to the starting point? Very cool!
Hi Dave. Yes, we moored “somewhere” on the banks of the river each night to sleep, and then pushed off each morning to drift at the pace of the river. These photos are from the second time we did it. It was July and baking hot. Not much fun as there was no shade on the raft. The first time was in September – our honeymoon. We figured if we could cope with 8 days on a tiny raft, we could cope with marriage! Anyway, that trip – same river and same raft – was fabulous. Mist in the mornings, burning off through the day. There are two companies running these trips. One where you build your own raft out of logs. The other with these premade rafts. Ours was the cheaper option. You float from one point and arrive at the end point 7 days later. The magic is getting into river time. It’s not like you can go any faster. :-)Thoroughly recommend it. Ah… I’ll send you a link! 🙂
