We left Greenland in 2013. It was an interesting year in Nuuk, including the “best job ever” teaching English at the police academy. But Nuuk is very different from the far north of Greenland, and in many ways it was like living in a small town in Denmark. An expensive small town in Denmark! We paid ten times the rent for our apartment in Nuuk, than we did for a small house in Qaanaaq. Yes, there were subsidies in Qaanaaq, but Nuuk is just full-on!
Some things, however, are still the same. Like the old hospital behind Jane. It’s yellow. 🙂 The new hospital in Nuuk is much, much bigger, and very red. But this one in the old part of town (with the much-discussed/infamous statue of Hans Egede on the rock above the hospital) is about the same size as the hospital in Uummannaq.
