The title is a little misleading as what I’m really doing is graphic design. But I like to think what I’m creating is art, and besides, graphic design is too long a title, and it messes up the menu. 😉
I failed art miserably in high school. One memorable parents’ evening, my teacher told my mother: “your son has no talent” – ouch! But then, I didn’t want to draw potted plants or household items like kettles. I wanted to draw spaceships. Anyway, in the late nineties I was introduced to Photoshop 4 and I have been using the various incarnations ever since. I still learn something new every time I use it, and I am painfully aware that I have yet to scratch the surface of its potential.
Last year my “art” – it’s my website and I’m going to call it that! 🙂 – took a drastic turn as I was introduced to 3D art and the use of “assets” to compile images. More graphic design, but combined with Photoshop – a lot more fun. Suddenly I could “do stuff”, and I didn’t have to draw or paint to get the image I wanted.
Many hours later (we don’t talk about the financial investment – just the time) I’m getting where I want to be and even exploring the potential to sell some of my work as pre-made covers, perhaps even commissions. But, mostly, I create covers and promotional material (see Petra, below) for my own books.
So this page is a very personal section of my website with updates of my work every once in a while.
Oh, and a few galleries for the curious among you. 😉
