And we’ve reached the end of the week, the end of the year, and the last chapter of Seven Graves, One Winter.
I’ll start by wishing you a Happy New Year.
With everything that’s going on in the world, I think a lot of people will just be grateful to enter a new year and put the last one behind us. But I want to be happy, and sledge dogs make me happy – segue into Sledge Dog Sunday.
These posts, every Sunday, will have something to do with dogs, the lessons I learned from them, the history – some – of dog sledging (yep, I’m using the British word there), some reviews of sledging books, stories of my own experiences and inspiration, plus lots of photos.
That’s what you can expect from Sledge Dog Sunday. It’s appropriate, then, that this post lands on the last Behind the Scenes of Seven Graves, One Winter. The last chapter goes live today on my Patreon site. And, if you’ve been reading along, or you have previously read the story, you’ll know how it all ends.
One of the fun things for me, when writing the story, was using the sledge dog puppy to nudge Maratse into recovery. She gets a name at the end of the book – no spoilers – and I enjoyed giving her that name as it felt as though we had come full circle. Seven Graves, One Winter is still my breakthrough book. It is, I suppose, a benchmark of my writing. However, I’ve written a lot more since then. To date, under the name of Christoffer Petersen alone, I’ve published more than three million words.
Practice makes perfect, as they say.
But while I never intend to write the perfect novel, I will keep practicing. And, maybe, if I’m lucky, I might get another breakthrough novel and another one after that.
That’s the plan going into 2024.
Thank you for spending time with me in 2023.
I’ll see you on the other side.
Chris

Oh, that ending!! Revisiting Seven Graves One Winter after so many years was like coming home to a long-absent friend! And that ending! So poignant and emotional and hopeful . . and so incredibly beautifully-written! The tears came again. I don’t know how you do that! But I sure appreciate it! Happy New Year!
Yeah… It’s fun to walk alongside Maratse once more. Thanks, Dave. Now I really should get going on book 8. 😉
