I’ve always said that I did so many things for the very first time in Greenland. March 11, 2007, was no exception. While I had run with Siberian Huskies on trikes in England, with a sled and Alaskan Huskies in Alta, Norway, and a car chassis with more Alaskans in Maine, USA, this was my first trip on the sea ice in Greenland with my own dogs. Just getting down the hill was a challenge – so steep!
Kassassuk, the big lead dog with the white fur spots on his face giving him the “eyes always open” look, and Vitus were the team I chose for a trip out to a fishing hole. We had some “discussions”. Which they won with exceptional debate skills. Who knew?
There was a bit of heaving over the “damned sastrugi” – actually quite mild compared to what we would encounter later. And then… wait for it… the all important “GO!!” as Luui might say. 🙂
Good times!
Lasted about three metres!
Sigh.
Oh well.
