No, I’m not changing Maratse’s name, just the title of a short story.
I wrote A Bright Pink Hat in February 2021, just one month into a year-long short story challenge. I like the story. I never liked the title. But I was a bit stressed at the time, and couldn’t think of anything better. The title came from a prompt from the short story challenge.
So, one year later I am ready to call it something different, something a bit more Maratse.
A Bright Pink Hat is now The Canine Prize.
It’s still short and it’s still free.
Oh, and it’s got a new cover. 😉

I didn’t realize how much I enjoy the quiet way Maratse expresses himself until I started a book by Staalesen. Veum babbles more than I do, filling my head with noise. Raised eyebrows leave so much more to the imagination and fit with the silence of the locations. I’ve read some 30 of your stories and the only one I didn’t enjoy was ‘The Carpathian Connection’. I couldn’t develop a connection with the characters. Looking forward to more of your work. Love the pictures you are sharing.
Hi Linda. Good to hear from you. You’ve read 30 of my stories! That’s a special kind of punishment you’ve devised for yourself. 🙂 But of course, I truly appreciate it. Thank you. The Carpathian Connection was a ‘character experiment’ in some ways, and therefore a little different. More stories on the way – with some experiments in between. 😉
