I don’t make a habit of photographing the neighbours, but I was a bit worried they weren’t going to make it this year, so when they wandered over for a snack, I grabbed a few photos.
Not the best photos as the camera is a little old now, but here are our neighbours: the Cranes.
This is the third year in a row, that I know of, that the cranes have spent the spring in the fields and woods behind our house. I didn’t see them the first year, and I thought the trumpeting was geese. Not so.
Also, without my glasses, I’m a little embarrassed to admit the first thing I thought of when I saw them was how in the world a pair of ostriches came to be in the backyard.
Thankfully, I know better now.
Now, the cranes are one thing, but what to do about the herd of nine deer spending every other night in the garden, i.e. right next to the house. Of course, the moles reveal the deer have been there, with fresh hoof prints in the numerous – and fresh – molehills. The piles of scat kind of give them away too – that and the nibbled blueberry branches.
Hmm… working on it.
But there is plenty of life in the garden this year!
