The need for speed!

May 25, 2022 by Christoffer Petersen Leave a Comment

So, if everything goes to plan, and corona doesn’t get in the way… again… I am watching Top Gun: Maverick right now! We usually get a premiere a day early in Denmark.

Like it or loathe it, Top Gun continues to be one of my favourite and most watched movies. I was 13 when Top Gun came out and am still gutted that my mum saw it in the cinema and I had to wait to see it on a rented VHS half a year or so later.

Not this time!

Thirty-some years later I can see the sequel in the movie theatre! And I mean right now. This very minute. 🙂

Which, for me, anyway, is cause for a little literary celebration. So if you can cope with yet another short story from Greenland, you might find Call Sign “Sled Dog” interesting, if a little tongue-in-cheek, and more than a little Greenlandified. Yeah, it’s a word! 😉 If all the timing goes to plan, the eBook pre-order goes live while I’m watching the film.

Yeah, I know, I’m geeking out!

Just a little.

But if you can’t wait for the pre-order, or you’re curious but not entirely convinced, then why not have some fun with a free concept story? Check out Broken Arrow, introducing Lieutenant Ukaliina “Sled Dog” Nakinngi. 😉

Not sure if I’ve reached maximum fanboy capacity yet, but I think you’ll agree, it’s not for lack of trying! #toomuchfun

Geeking out!

The geek would be me, not Jane. 😉 I’m sure, given the state of the world, this kind of post is pure luxury, but I am getting excited about Maverick, the Top Gun sequel. So, this photo, from Seattle, on our slow return from Alaska to Denmark, is fun for me. I spotted a Tomcat, and dragged Jane over for a selfie.

Yeah, Jane has had to suffer my Top Gun affliction for quite a few years now. Come to think of it, mum and dad have suffered too. A bunch of friends… kids at school… Okay, many people have suffered, and it’s only going to get worse! The pandemic was tough for many reasons, pushing the date for Maverick was the least of them, but still … Yeah, I know, perspective and all that! Oh, and don’t get me started on the environment, climate, and all the reasons why I shouldn’t want to watch Maverick.

But I’m gonna …

… in 36 days!

Well that was rough!

I didn’t know I needed a good cry when I watched this, and I really didn’t know I would keep crying for the 10 maybe 20 minutes it took me to tell Jane what the film was about. Jane tuned out early on and listened to George Ezra while I watched Supernova. I could hear her singing in the background, which, as the film progressed became increasingly important, and emotional…

No, I can’t really explain it, but I’m pretty sure anyone who watches Supernova will understand.

Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci were amazing.

As was the story.

Scotland was also amazing, and it was fun to see the roads we used to drive, and places we visited, camped, etc. featured in the film.
