And here’s the reason why I created one, what you can expect, and how you can subscribe:
Making a living as a writer is both incredibly exciting and nerve-wracking. Sales fluctuate, books get drowned by bigger and better marketing campaigns, and lost in algorithm hell. Carving a niche and building a readership takes a long time, and it’s probably the only way to make a long career out of writing. Readers come and go, stories hit, they flop, but they never go away. That’s one of the constants a writer can rely on, but in this ever changing digital world, there are no givens, and nothing is too big to fail. So, to survive, thrive, and continue to have fun, I’ve made some decisions this year (2023) and the decision to start a Patreon site is one of them.
I write a lot of stories, and while I have experienced a good deal of success and a lot of momentum on sites such as Amazon, I also want to try new things to avoid having all my eggs in one basket. I’ve tried lots of different platforms and ideas, and while nothing really beats Amazon for sales, I am having fun creating and uploading content to Patreon. A lot of the content has never been previously published, or might be a work in progress, but I am also writing some content exclusively for my Patreon site. But of course, there is a paywall.
If you choose to support me on Patreon, for a month at a time, or maybe several months in a row, opting in and out, you get to read previously unpublished stories featuring many familiar and favourite characters, rough sketches, and even serial chapters before the books are published. I might publish exclusive content on Patreon in paperbacks via Amazon, for example, at the same time as it is published on Patreon, and as eBooks a little later. But with new content coming each month, there will always be plenty of new and original stories to read.
You can read the stories directly on the Patreon site, or via email, with a story popping into your inbox when it is published. I have begun listing some of the bigger projects on this page (also in the drop down menu above).
Your support allows me to relax a tiny bit and write even more content alongside my existing projects. I will even write more personal stories for patrons who choose the Behind the Scenes PLUS tier.
Patreon is all about “tiers” and I currently have 3 tiers.
The main difference between the 3 tiers is as follows:
- “Behind the Scenes” unlocks short stories each month, and those that have been published in that tier prior to you joining.
- “Seasonal” unlocks everything in tier 1 and the seasonal stories released during holidays with an advent calendar each Christmas and July.
- “Behind the Scenes PLUS” unlocks everything, and I write a more personal story for those patrons once in a while.
At the time of writing I have just a couple of patrons. It’s cosy to share comments with patrons on Patreon. Comments and interaction are not required, of course, but it’s a fun way to talk about the stories and take a deeper dive into Greenland and my fictional worlds, and perhaps discuss other topics in between.
There’s also a lot of content with more stories coming each month.
Please ask if you have any questions about what you can expect on Patreon, I’d love to hear from you.
