Okay, that’s a title and a half, and it might need some explaining. But, if you’ve read The Ice Star, then the sign above needs no explanation, and the title will also make sense.
I discovered the character of Burwardsley when Jane and I visited my parents in England. We went for a walk from Beeston Castle in Cheshire, where they lived, to a pub with Steampunk lamps – see? I can’t shake the Steampunk references!
Never mind that I often misspell Burwardsley, forgetting the first ‘r’, this is where he got his name. Note to self: check that! 🙂 Beeston Castle, however, is where I once spent a whole night on fire duty – one of my first real childhood outdoor experiences – watching what all the kids were convinced was a ghost prowling around the castle ruins.
Beeston Castle is a special place for me, at bit like Alderley Edge – more on that later. Burwardsley, in his own way, is also special, but in a whole other way.
