On day one of a three-day storm, forty-year-old Bob is ported into his favourite RPG video game.
Bob spent many, many hours creating his female character in the modern day dystopian video game: Blessed. He pushed all the sliders to the maximum realism settings. Now he’s crafting sanitary towels with fabric taken from the dead bodies Arkteryx leaves in her wake as they try to survive the streets of a broken city.
Arkteryx is a short what if? story, and a proof-of-concept work, with a nagging potential to become a larger body of work.
If Arkteryx agrees, that is.

Arkteryx is published under the pen name Bran Nicholls, but it is seriously influenced by Christoffer Petersen, and a certain video game that he has spent far too many hours playing, exploring and crafting in when he should have been writing.
It’s a quick, ten-minute read that might just scratch the LitRPG itch you never knew you had.
And here’s a link to the blog post for a little more about the inspiration for the story.
